Eugene Raponi, K.C.
Born in Prince Rupert, BC, Eugene received both his undergraduate (’76) and law degree (’81) from the University of Victoria and has practiced in Victoria ever since. He has appeared in numerous applications, trials and appeals over his legal career, predominantly in the area of Family Law and Civil Litigation.
Eugene now restricts his practice to mediation, mediation/arbitration, and arbitration. Eugene is an accredited Family Law Mediator and a Family Law Arbitrator. He has been a regular contributor to continuing professional development courses and programs in family law and dispute resolution.
Eugene has come to appreciate the strengths as well as the weaknesses of the court process. Cost and rigidity are its most significant disadvantages, especially as it relates to families and ongoing relationships. Eugene strives to create a dispute resolution process that is respectful, efficient and creative so as to deliver the process best suited to meet the needs of the parties to a dispute.
Eugene is a former director of the Canadian Institute for Law and the Family, a past Governor of the British Columbia Law Foundation, a former member of the British Columbia Supreme Court Rules Revision Committee and served on a number of advisory committees relating to legislative reform. He has been active in the Canadian Bar Association for many years, serving as Chair of its National Family Law Section in 1999/2000 and also taught courses at the University of Victoria Law School.
He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 2009.
Eugene enjoys travel, gardening and bricolage (French for handyman work)
